I bought this as a step for my German shepherds to climb up onto my bed (Yes. They are spoiled!) They both took to it immediately. No more struggling!The risers only have shallow grooves for stacking; I would have preferred that they snap in, but they seem to work okay. The rubber runner is attached by an adhesive and was not well pressed when I got it. It may have to be re-glued at some point. Minor issues...As for its intended purposes? Who knows. I'm not much into aerobics so I doubt I will ever use this step as it was designed, but it sure works great for my dogs!
